ACADEMIC WORKS
A look into my scholastic career.

MY TIME AT JMU'S WRITING CENTER
May, 2022
During my senior year at James Madison University, I took both apprenticeship and employment as a writing consultant in the University Writing Center at JMU. For a semester, I mentored under experienced consultants to learn the different methodologies behind tutoring and consultation. In addition, beyond literary research, I was enrolled in a class solely about writing center education and careers. After an interview process at the end of the fall semester, I was employed by the writing center and began my own independent consultation journey in the spring. Through scheduled appointments, I would meet with undergraduate and graduate students and help them through their writing processes for whatever task or assignment they were trying to complete. I would provide both indirect and direct aid when necessary and give feedback on the direction of their writing. My position required a familiarity with many different writing and academic citation styles, an ability to adapt to the needs of each client, and expertise in document design and rhetoric. It was an extremely rewarding experience getting to use what I learned in the classroom in order to help others with their writing processes.
GENERAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE
October, 2021
During my time in the general education curriculum at James Madison University, I had written many papers and reports on history, art, and other collegiate topics. However, in the fall semester of 2020, I was selected out of thousands of general education students to present my historical thesis, "Chinua Achebe and European Rule", at the 2021 James Madison General Education Conference. According to faculty, only students who have "produced outstanding work in a General Education course" are invited to present.
In this report, I analyze and compare two speeches: Bernard Dernburg's "England Traitor to the White Race" and Chinua Achebe's "The Education of a British-Protected Child."

LAW TRANSLATION STATEMENT
April, 2021
Being a writer means being adaptable. For an assignment in my legal writing course, I was given an unfamiliar situation within the realm of law and was asked to write a company statement to employees, translating a case report in legal speak into understandable terms. This challenged me to adapt to the needs of both the audience and the client in order to deliver a credible, cohesive report in a professional setting.
RODEO CAFÉ EMPLOYEE MANUAL
December, 2020
As a writing, rhetoric, and technical communication (WRTC) major at James Madison University, I hold expertise in document design and word processing software. For the final project in my professional editing course, I was tasked to revise a disorganized, unprofessional employee manual from Rodeo Café and turn it into a polished, accessible, and usable company asset.
Below, you can access both the original and edited documents.
